Fable of the Day (Greek): The Bathing Boy

The Bathing Boy = Perry 211 (English translation: Oxford Aesop 289)

Παῖς τις εἰσελθὼν επί τινα ποταμὸν ἀπολούσασθαι, καὶ μὴ εἰδὼς νήχεσθαι, ἐκινδύνευεν ἀποπνιγῆναι. καί τινα παρερχόμενον ἄνδρα ἰδὼν εἰς βοήθειαν τοῦτον ἐκάλει. ὁ δὲ ἄνθρωπος τοῦτον διασῴζων ἐκεῖθεν ἔλεγεν αὐτῷ “ἵνα τί, μὴ νήχεσθαι εἰδώς, τῆς τοσαύτης κατατετόλμηκας πλημμύρας;” ὁ δὲ παῖς αὐτῷ ἔφη “τέως νῦν βοήθει μοι, καὶ μετὰ ταῦτα ὀνείδισον.”

Οὗτος δηλοῖ ὡς ὁ ἐν περιστάσει τινὰ προσονειδίζων ἀκαίρως αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀπρεπῶς καταμέμφεται.

Παῖς τις
