Profile Information

Hometown/Institution:
University of Liverpool
Role in the Classics Classroom (real or virtual):
all of the above
About Me:
My name is Anna Foka [sic] and I come originally from the most beautiful island in the mediterranean- Cephallonia. Born and bred in Athens, Greece I obtained my degree (4 years BA) from the National and Capodistrian University of Athens in Theatrical Studies (specialised in Ancient cultures and theatre). I obtained my MA degree in Classics from the University of Liverpool. My MA dissertation dealt with the socio-political context of Greek Tragedy. I am currently a Ph.D. Candidate in Classics at the University of Liverpool and about to submit my Thesis (hurray!- really can't wait). My Ph.D. Thesis deals with the representation of alterities in Greek Comedy via the use of animal and divine characters/references.
I am currently a teaching fellow at the University of Liverpool and employed by Bolchazy- Carducci Publishers as an editor. My mission in life is to promote Classics and be the most horrifying computer geek in the whole wide world.
Favorite on-line spots for the Classics:
probably http://www.atrium-media.com/rogueclassicism/
Best/worst computer-related classroom happening:
Best: When, during a meeting in Second Life, I created the 'ivv' (in vita vera) abbreviation instead of 'irl' (in real life) along with some other latinists.
Worst: I'm always the one fellow lecturers summon upon when it comes to internet-techie related inquiries. *cries*

Supporting Classical studies in Norway.
