Fable of the Day (Greek): Donkey and Cicada

I've decided to start a new experiment, publishing some Greek fables here in the eClassics website. I'm starting off with the fables of Syntipas, since I've been working on a Greek Aesop wiki with the fables of Syntipas. Ὄνος καὶ τέττιξ

Donkey and Cicada = Perry 184 (English translation: Oxford Aesop 340)

Ὄνος ἀκούσας φωνῆς τέττιγος ἡδέως αὐτῇ ἐπετέρπετο, καὶ τὸν τέττιγα ἐπηρώτα λέγων “τί ἄρα τρεφόμενος οὕτω γλυκεῖαν ἔχεις τὴν φωνήν;” ὁ δὲ τέττιξ τῷ ὄνῳ ἀντέφησεν “ἡ ἐμὴ τροφὴ ἀήρ ἐστι καὶ δρόσος.” ὁ δὲ ὄνος τούτου ἀκούσας τοῦ ῥήματος ἐνόμισε μέθοδον εὑρηκέναι δι’ ἧς ὅμοιαν τῷ τέττιγι σχοίη φωνήν· καὶ τὸ στόμα εὐθὺς ἀνοίξας πρὸς τὸν ἀέρα κεχήνωτο ὡς δεξόμενος δῆθεν δρόσον εἰς διατροφήν, ἕως οὗ τῷ λιμῷ διεφθάρη.

Οὗτος ὁ μῦθος δηλοῖ ὅτι οὐ δεῖ τινα τὰ φυσικὰ τοῖς παρὰ φύσιν ἐξομοιοῦν καὶ τοῖς ἀδυνάτοις ἀφρόνως ἐπιχειρεῖν.
