"I think a policy decision as large as sacrificing the future our cultural (republican) heritage in favor of Chinese should not be left in the hands of a private institution motivated by profit, such as the College Board."

Hi Zahra,

The Abelard extract isn't an isolated quote; I'm posting the entire Historia Calamitatum in bite-sized chunks as we work our way through it over on the LatinStudy list!

A very interesting web site. Since most people in our modern age are so illiterate when it comes to the classics, it can be a shock to see how closely the state of our 21st-century republic/empire resembles that of the reigning world power from two millennia ago. Do you think Cicero has a counterpart in the U.S. of today? Nader would be the only one I could think of, but the comparison is silly. Perhaps our present political milieu isn't one to create great figures.

Anyhow, keep it up.
