Having studied A level Latin and Greek many years ago, I took the Open University courses in Latin and now can read the language adequately, if slowly and with the aid of a dictionary.
I have decided to devote my declining years to studying Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. He spent twenty years writing it and, having actuarially twenty years left to me, I intend to devote these to reading it.
