Fable of the Day (Greek): The Bird-Catcher and The Partridge

Ἰξευτὴς καὶ πέρδιξ

The Bird Catcher and the Partridge = Perry 265 (English translation: Oxford Aesop 45)

Ἀνήρ τις ἰξευτὴς κατέσχε τινὰ πέρδικα καὶ εὐθὺς αὐτὴν καταθῦσαι ἠθέλησεν. ἡ δὲ πέρδιξ, τῆς ἰδίας ζωῆς ἀντεχομένη, πρὸς τὸν ἰξευτὴν συνέθετο ὡς “εἴ με τῶν δεσμῶν ἐλευθερώσεις, πολλοὺς πέρδικας ἐκμειλιξαμένη προσαγάγω σοι.” ὁ δὲ ἰξευτής, τῷ ταύτης λόγῳ μᾶλλον μανείς, ταύτην αὐτίκα ἀνῄρηκεν.

Οὗτος δηλοῖ ὡς ὁ ἑτέρῳ παγίδα ἱστῶν αὐτὸς ἐν αὐτῇ ὡς σκαιὸς ἐμπεσεῖται.
