I just completed my first year of teaching at Rye Country Day School in Rye, NY. I taught grades 6-9 and even had a 10th and an 11th grader. So, I really got the chance to experience the different age-levels, what they are capable of, what they like, what gets them excited. I had a great year and I can't wait to start my second year in the fall. My background is in classics, having graduated from the College of William and Mary with a degree in classical civilization. I then went on to earn my MA in Adolescent Education, Latin from Hunter Colleg in New York City.
Best/worst computer-related classroom happening:
The connection between my laptop and my LCD projector is a touchy one. If it is not hooked up in a very specific order and with all the right timing, the image from my computer will not be projected. I spent a good 20 minutes in class one day trying to get this to work and then finally had to give up. The kids were great, trying to help me out, telling jokes to keep the class entertained and relaxed. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to having a SmartBoard with a permanently mounted projector in the fall.
