Best/worst computer-related classroom happening:

The worst was writing a program in PL/C and dropping the punch cards off to get run, and when going back to collect the printed output, discovering that my program was spewing out paper madly in a loop, as the people in the computer center ran around cursing. I swore I'd never have anything to do with computers again.

After getting my master's in linguistics, I became a computer programmer. :)
