Once there was Girls' Latin School in Boston, which had a terrible building, a shorter history, half the enrollment, and twice the intellectual clout of its 'brother' school, Boston Latin. Girls Latin morphed into Boston Latin Academy not much later. After that I majored in Classics at Brandeis, which collapsed its program into Classics and Oriental Studies. Much later I got an MDiv from Weston Jesuit School of Theology, which is being absorbed by Boston College, so I think I am bad for academic institutions, or just prone to lost causes. I have no academic connection to classics these days, apart from being brutally boring to my children, one of whom has reacted to this formation by entering a PhD program in ...Classics. I love knowing Latin. My Greek was never good enough, but it's still there.
Watching PowerPoints at archaeology conferences whose file either refused to load, or whose pictures were so light they bleached out almost to invisibility.
