Fable of the Day (Greek): The Hare and The Fox

The Hare in The Well and The Fox = Perry 408 (English translation: Oxford Aesop 444)

Λαγωός τις ἐδίψα καὶ ἐν φρέατι κατῆλθε τοῦ ὕδωρ πιεῖν, ἀφ’ οὗ καὶ ἡδέως πολὺ ἐπεπώκει. ὅτε δὲ ἐκεῖθεν ἀνελθεῖν ἔμελλεν ἀμηχανίᾳ συνεσχέθη περὶ τὴν ἄνοδον, καὶ τὰ μέγιστα ἠθύμει. ἀλώπηξ δὲ ἐλθοῦσα κἀκεῖσε τοῦτον εὑροῦσα ἔφη πρὸς αὐτόν “μεγάλως ὄντως ἐσφάλης· πρότερον γὰρ ὤφειλες βουλεύσασθαι πῶς ἔσται σοι τοῦ φρέατος ἀνελθεῖν, εἶθ’ οὕτως ἐν αὐτῷ κατελθεῖν.”

Οὗτος ἐλέγχει τοὺς αὐτοβούλως πράττοντας καὶ μὴ συμβουλευομένους.

Λαγωός τις

ἐδίψα

πῶς ἔσται σοι

τοῦ φρέατος ἀνελθεῖν,

εἶθ’ οὕτως

ἐν αὐτῷ κατελθεῖν.”

Οὗτος ἐλέγχει

τοὺς αὐτοβούλως πράττοντας

καὶ μὴ συμβουλευομένους.
