Role in the Classics Classroom (real or virtual):
teacher
About Me:
I am the Latin teacher at Cal High; we offer four years of Latin, including the AP Vergil course at the fourth year level. Our Latin program and club are alive and well!

Activities:
I love spending time with my wife Sarah and our son Jasper, who was born on August 21, 2007. We like to hike in the hills behind our house in Whittier, enjoy gardening (especially California Native Plants) and being involved in our local church, Plymouth Congregational Church, Whittier.

Interests:
Some of my personal interests are: Latin pedagogy of course, ancient history and language study, folklore, folk music and instruments (building as well), the hurdy gurdy, podcasts, craftsman homes and furniture, building furniture with my dad in his cabinet shop, Belgian beers, helping my wife, a much better chef than I, cook.

Favorite Music:
American folk music: Old Timey Music, Southern Blues and Spirituals. Hildegard von Bingen, French Folk Music and the Hurdy Gurdy. Bob Dylan, The Band, Tom Waits, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, The Pogues, The Velvet Underground, The Modern Lovers.

Favorite Books:
Classics: Homer and Vergil, the Bible, Augustine, Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, Austen, the Brontes and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Twain, Steinbeck and John Dos Passos.
Literature: Mark Helprin, Umberto Eco, Italo Calvino, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien.
Theological and Devotional: N.T. Wright, Robert Webber, Dallas Willard, Thomas Merton, Richard Foster, Phyllis Tickle.

Best: My own podcast for my Latin 3/4AP class has been a helpful tool for many of my aspiring Vergilians.

The pesky mypodcast.com site periodically going into bouts of unconsciousness. But this year it's been quite stable.
