Homer seems to be most people's ideal. In my mind there haven't been any better works since in any language. I have only a very shaky grasp of Greek, and so as yet I've only been able to read them in translation, but I have vowed to learn Greek, if only to read Homer.

Every so often I go back to my Pharr's "Homeric Greek" textbook and take up my studies again. Unfortunately I have not been very consistent.

Charles Williams the writer I assume--not the footballer, politician, motorcyclist, etc. etc. It seems to be a very common name, Charles Williams.

I don't believe I've ever read any Charles Williams, but then again perhaps I've just forgotten. I have read the first two books of C.S. Lewis' space trilogy, though. Is his stuff science fiction? At the very least, I recall reading about him, and I had him in my mind as a sci fi guy.

So you are a celebrity in the world of Inklings' scholarship. Myself, I am merely a celebrity in my own mind--although that's probably the most important place to be so. What else have you written?

As an aside, I tried reading Voyage to Arcturus, apparently an influence on the Inkling gang, but I couldn't finish it--total snoozefest, or it seemed so to me.
